The early cars were sent out with only one It was found that this was a weak point of strength and the cars were recalled to add an additional gusset which was bolted to the wheel well. This design is on perhaps only a handful of the very earliest sprite out of production. |

| On this early Bugeye AN5 2737 you see the wheel arch gusset on the interior of the wheel arches. This is the passenger side. Notice the original designed top gusset and the additional modified gusset (the left one) which is now welded. This design was changed sometime in September-October of 1958. |
