Another Early Sprite Hanks AN5 635 Bugeye
|
Recently I received an e-mail from a chap in California who saw the story I wrote on the website about AN5 552. He wanted to let me know that he too had an early Bugeye that he restored and gave me a little info. I got back to him asking for more info and would he mind if I shared it on the site. Here's his response to my inquiry.

AN5 635 is the 135th built on April
10, 1958 and was dispatched to
Texas (US) on April 21st. I bought
it from the 2nd owner in Santa Cruz,
California in 1979. I met the original
owner who had all the records
including sales invoice, drivers
book and manuals. Many of the
parts on my car are so specific that
I cannot use spares from other
Sprites.
Here are the numbers on the
car.
Engine #285
Gearbox #293
Axle #589
Door BAE 780
There is no cowl number!
Hank also went on the tell me that AN5 550
was located in Gilroy, California or at least it
was in 2004. The information he has on that
Bugeye is that it is;
AN5 550
Cowl number 159
Door BAD 619.
It was on display in the lobby for an Austin
Healey Club meet in Oxnard, California back
in 1988.
If anyone knows about this car or you are the
owner, drop me an e-mail and I'd be glad to
post you info here too if you would like.
Thanks Hank for sharing your car with all of
us.
After sitting in my garage for 20 years, I have finally finished the restoration of my early 1958 Bugeye Sprite. With just 6 miles on her, here she sits with her first Trophy in May 2009.
